Simon Macdonald awarded Review of English Studies 2012 Essay Prize
Simon Macdonald (University College London), a former postdoctoral fellow at the Burney Centre, has been awarded the Review of English Studies essay prize for 2012 for his essay 'Identifying Mrs Meeke: Another Burney Family Novelist'. His essay focuses on the writer 'Mrs Meeke', the most prolific English-language novelist of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and demonstrates that she can be identified as Elizabeth Meeke, a step-sister of Frances Burney. In announcing the prize, the journal editor wrote that this was 'a terrific find, beautifully handled, and the judgment of the editors was unanimous'.
